War in Ukraine: America is learning the art of humility

After the Afghan withdrawal fiasco last summer, America lost the confidence of its European allies. US intelligence looked unprepared and the care operation was startlingly incompetent. Moreover, European diplomats lamented, America hardly consulted with its allies. America withdrew on its own fast-paced schedule, leaving countries that still had forces and personnel in the country in despair. When some Europeans said it would be wise to leave the remaining NATO forces, the White House ignored their pleas.
