Hong Kong: “My employer kicked me out because I caught Covid”

As Hong Kong battles a wave of Covid infections, dozens of foreign home helpers have been fired and left homeless after testing positive.

Lenlen (not her real name) is one of them. She says her employer kicked her out when she caught Covid and in one fell swoop she lost both her job and her home.

Under Hong Kong law, foreign domestic workers must live with their employer. The government says employers do not have the right to fire assistants if they contract Covid.
